Transporting coral and LR

#1
My brother is driving 1000 miles back to Tucson and I was going to put a 5 gal bucket in his trunk with some LR and simple corals like mushroom & zoas for our cousin. Is there a best practice you can recommend for this type of delivery? I was going to use hot hands to keep it warm so no heater but what about flow?

Thanks!

I just moved corals and live rock from Phoenix to here. I used an insulated cooler with a hole drilled in the top to run a battery operated air pump like Haddonisreef suggested. Everything lived through the trip so I know it works. Just make sure the corals will stay separated.

Very true, his car is a tiny hatchback but the front seat would be better for heat than the back (the trunk, LOL). How do you use those hand warmer things as a heater? I was just going to put it in a plastic bag and float it.

The heat packs won't work in a bag or box once the oxygen is gone... this is why they get hot again sometimes after you open the box up and they get some fresh air.

Oh dang, well ill give him teh what for and hope for the best. Hes not stupid but if I tell him to put the temp at 78 he will be too hot and do the opposite were is if I say nothing he will probably keep it at 78... its mostly just live rock, and starter no name ugly zoas and common mushrooms to get my cuz started, I think they would all be good at 70 if it came down to that. Here hoping for the best! Thanks again :)

So I did the cooler with a hole and battery air pump and had him keep it right behind him, left here at 80 got there 14 hours later at 76 and my cousin got it from him 12 hours after that and it was 74. A week later there's no sign of the rocks cycling and the corals opened up all within an hour of putting them in the tank. I floated those individually in pee cups.

thanks for all the help, pro info right there :)
