The Vortex Diatom Filter Model XL is a high-speed mechanical filter that is designed to fine filter aquarium water without disturbing the natural bacteria levels. It has 432 square inch filter area. The Diatom Filter is equipped with a 3000 RPM motor shaft that is connected directly to the impeller. It is designed for continuous yearround operation at a maximum of 8 hours per week at a time (it should not be run all the time but does not need to be used only when a problem is present - it can be used as part of a weekly maintenance routine).
