I'm going to diy my own media basket for my biocube with acrylic. Picked up a sheet of acrylic at Lowe's but they don't carry weldon neither does the hd.

Anyone know where I can pick up locally? Preferably open today?

I want to do this to see how hard it is to work with acrylic. I have some plans for the future depending on the ease. Hopefully it's a good experience! Any acrylic working advice is welcome!
Thanks in advance!

The only places I have found that carry it are some plastic supply stores and acrylic manufacturers. You could try fluid designers, but otherwise, I doubt there is any place that carries it that isnt only open M-F 9-5.

I just ebay it and set search for free shipping. It normally takes 3-5 days for delivery and is half the price of the plastic stores I have visited that will sell to people off the street.

Plastic Care on Santa Fe and Oxford by Red and Jerry's carries it plus you can get scrap acrylic there cheaper than Lowes or HD. I don't know there hours and they may not be open today but you could get it sooner than Amazon.

I'll have to check them out. I may return the sheer I got from Lowe's and see if they can cut the pieces for me. Maybe it will be cheap since it's really small project.

Grabbed this sheet from Lowe's. I know it's extruded but since it only is a media rack and not structural I assume it will be okay. From my research we use cell cast because of strength over extruded.

That stuff works fine for baffles and other members that dont have much pressure or force on it. Depending on how much and what kind of media is gonna sit on top of it, it could fail on you, but I doubt you will have a problem.

I would go to a "real" acrylic place to get your materials. The stuff in your photo is cheap in quality, high in price. It cracks easily (even when drilling), and doesn't cut or finish well. I just don't want to see that cheap stuff break on you and cause problems.

Try the place already mentioned that is closer to you, or if you're up north a bit farther go see the guys at Colorado Plastics in Louisville.

Just my $.02,
GC

Went to plasticare today and they cut some pieces grabbed some glue will start a build thread when I get around to the project.... Cost a little more overall than Lowe's but they're cut how I want and got the solvent!

Thanks mural reef!
Glad to help. It's a nice little shop and now you have nice clean cuts to glue.
