It just goes against every "green" and "cheap" bone in my body watching that water run down the drain. In the summer, I'll tap it into the drip irrigation and water my veggies. But since they're currently covered in snow, that's not a good option right now.

I know water is cheap yada yada yada, but I was curious if anyone has creative ideas or uses their waste water for other things.

In the summer I run the waste line out the window and fill buckets and dump them on the lawn or water plants. In the winter I put the waste line in the washing machine for laundry. I don't "make" a ton of water, so it isn't too much of a hassle, but I feel pretty guilty just letting it run down the drain. I am always careful to set a timer on my phone so I don't let the water overfill any containers or the washing machine. A quick "Siri, set a timer for one hour" does the trick.

I've also heard of people running the waste line to a rain barrel type of container for irrigation purposes.

I use it to water my pot plants. Never had a better harvest until I did that! "Sigh" J/K I'm a responsible adult.

It depends on how deep your pond is my current pond is almost 6 feet deep my perivous one was only 4 but I've never had a problem over winter I lost like 3 over winter last year but they were small and added to the pond late in the summer

I maintained a pond at a bed and breakfast I managed in college. Super fun, until I got a bit entranced watching a heron at the pond.

Needless to say, he caught himself a tasty fish and learned that was a good place to hunt. Tried nets and motion activated sprinklers (cause herons make so much motion when hunting). Just soaked the guests.

I'll never do another pond, but I sure enjoy looking at other peoples lovely ponds!

Back on topic - I don't "make" much water either since I'm only doing 5g changes a week (on a 29g biocube - so not really even 29g). But it's about 15ish gallons going down the drain. Too far from my washing machines, and too much weight to carry up the basement stairs anyway. I like the drum irrigation, but the HOA wouldn't.

As long as the pond is deeper then 3 ft they will do fine during the winter.

and watering 'plants' is a perfectly good use of waste water ;)
