Was just reading a really interesting thread on RC , and wondered what temp you guys run your tank at? I have been keeping mine at 76f, for years but may slowly bring it up a bit having read this.

80... Did the same thing as you; was given some bogus info about keeping lower temps at altitude by an LFS owner and for over a year had very slow coral growth. After bumping it up to 80-81, I have a much healthier tank!

From Marsh BOD, "The below is something to think about. In my endless search to gain as much knowledge I can on SPS corals and the health of them I came across some info on Vibro Bacteria and mass bleaching and RTN in the reef systems. I think the biggest take I get out of this is that if we can keep our tanks consistently around 78 degrees we should be fine. Its when the temp gets to 80 that the effects of the bacteria really begin to F things up"

Ive never personally dealt with it but then again i run colder tanks.

Re: What reef temp do you maintain?

I try to keep mine around 79. When I was living in California, my tank would spike upwards of 87 regularly and one month hit 94 a couple days in a row. Fish were heavy breathers for a few days but no ill effects. Corals didn't seem to mind the high temps at all.

Re: What reef temp do you maintain?

79-80.

I used to keep my nanocube at 76-78 with a chiller, but found that it was running more than I liked. Both my 20g and 85g seem to sit comfortably at 79-80 degrees given the ambient temp I keep in my home (74-76)...and I use less energy just maintaining those temps rather than fighting to bring them up or down.

We have many thriving reef tanks sitting at 81-82 degrees. Have tried to reduce temp but corals appreciate the warmth.
