I have some live rock with a bunch of pests and I was wondering what's the best way to sterilize it? I've heard letting it sit in the sun all day works and soaking it in bleach water. What else works? I understand I will destroy all my bacteria which is ok because its going in a new tank which I will seed with live sand

What kind of pest are you try to get rid of?

If you let the rock dry out for some time and then boil it, that should help. Unless the rock is way to big of course...

+1 on what pests?

You could do a freshwater dip depending on what the pests are.

Yes. Don't know if its needed but worried that the rock would still have bleach in it . If that makes sense .

I just boiled all the rock in my main display a couple months ago to get rid of similar pest. Took a day of trading out rock from boiling pot to fresh water pots to shake all the dead stuff out and then to next fresh water pot for second rinse and then to large Tupperware to bring outside for the dry off in the sun. Worked like a charm.

Good input...might need a HUGE pot of boiling water! ;) I guess this worked for you instead of bleaching??
