Making a chaeto reactor is really simple and more affective in my opinion. Just need a cheap reactor and a 5600K LED light strip. Cost me about $80 to build. Reactor was full in two weeks. No salt creep or evaporation issues either. Other bonuses include night time CO2 absorption, and a harbor for pods.

Do you leave the light on for 24 hours a day? I'm thinking about doing this.

For the first two months I ran it 24/7 with lights on until my nutrient levels were in check, and now I have it on a 16 hour schedule coming on early evening and going off mid morning so that it is active overnight when CO2 develops.

I bought the reactor from EBay This is the medium size and the seller accepted $65 offer. The large one is about 10 bucks more and is just taller, but make sure it will fit under your tank. http://www.ebay.com/itm/172241460395?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

The LED strips I got for under 10 bucks from amazon.

Rumen, if it will load for you, look at this one. It is the one I'm working on building. If seems to be the most DIY idiot proof design I've seen. I bought a bunch of elbows and pre cut lengths of pvc + the knitting mesh. I just havn't assembled it yet with my injury and I think need a couple plumbing adapters to get it fitted to a pump.

Can't see back of base but bottom is just a capped off U. Trickiest part is trying to make a clean straight cut for the mesh then either go thru a bunch of zip ties if you want to remove to clean or figure something else out. Or clean in place.

If you want really nice albeit expensive. Turbo(?) L2 L4 etc reactors are pretty neat and lots of ease of use features. Just very expensive for what it is though it is a lot of hand shaped and made acrlic so I suppose fair. Maybe wait for the chinese factory version lol.... :(
