I am looking to buy a cheap led moonlight for my nano cube that I just purchased. It has the built in ones, but don't work, and the person i bought the tank from gave me a moonlight, but I placed it wrong.

long story short, I am after something that will work in my 6 gallon nano cube tank, but isn't hugely bright.

I have some money to throw in, so send anything you think will work!

You can also get the rapidled.com moonlight kit. It is $14+shipping. I have used them before and it works very well.

Big fan of the R2 dual or single moonlight and they're directional so you can point them wherever. You can buy the dual and use both or you can unplug one. They're not super cheap but they worked so much better than the 2 fixed singles I had before them.

I didn't mention it before because I was worried that it may be more light than you need for a 6 gallon tank, but I have a Dual R2 moonlight at home that you can buy if you are interested. It also has the moon phase controller. You can set it to simulate the phases of the moon so it is brightest during a full moon and almost off when there is no moon. You can also set the brightness manually if you prefer. Let me know if you are interested and I will make sure I have everything for it when I get home this evening. New you would be looking at about $70 for everything. I would be willing to sell it to you for $30.

the rapidled kit is 2 led chips on star (7/8" diameter) and a ballast that is about a 1 3/4" square 1/2" tall easy to conceal - they use 1 watt leds and are very bright - 4 on my 120 lights up the whole thing

I am seeing the Dual R2 online from $35-$45 without the controller. The controller is about $30 on it's own.

I'm very interested in the r2 lpsouth1978. Where are you located exactly? I'm in Longmont and don't know if I am able to drive that far.

But 30 seems to be a very good price so if we can set something up I will take it

If I can get to reef stock that would be amazing, and I will keep your option open but I will continue to look for somewhere close also.

@ ailachami, I am interested in the biocube leds. What do they look like? Will they fit in the nano cube hood without too much fitting?

Also, I don't have frags (just set up) but what money value would you take?

I have a small submersible LED moonlight strip. I believe it's just over 4" long and has 6 directional LEDs inside. I used it on my 6-gallon FW tank when it was running, and it worked great for the purpose. It does give a spotlight effect if you point it down in the tank; I pointed mine up at the reflector and had it bounce back into the tank.

If you're interested I'd let it go for $10.

Pic of tank (purposely overexposed...the glow isn't as harsh as it appears to be at the top of the tank)

Can't see the strip too well here, as I had it installed under the lip of the filter, but you can get an idea of the size...that's an AC20 it's tucked under:

So it's not too bright? Because the tank is in my room, so I need to keep the brightness down a bit so I can sleep haha.

But it's in the picture, it looks to be pretty slim. Is that correct? I am interested though

I live in a carriage house...basically a stand-alone studio. That tank was about 4ft from my bed.

YMMV, but it definitely wasn't too bright for me, and I had the same concerns. The bright bar of light appearing in the FTS above was due to the light being pointed horizontally toward the reflector, which was actually in the front of that tank's hood. It would diffuse even more if pointed straight up.
