Fellow Reefers, before going to ReefStock make some room in your basement. I am looking for an old school ballast, just like the title says. Let me know if you happen to have one thanks.

Good luck they are super hard to come by. I've been looking myself now for almost a year. I found one in San Francisco.
several people around these parts have come forward the regular MH pfo ballasts which look identical but are not. One guy even sold one to me stating it was hqi only for me to find out later it was not.

it seems they may have gone the way of the dodo bird. Based on on the research I have done your next best option is a 400 watt lumentek select a watt running in hqi mode. It won't drive the bulb as hard from what I hear about 10% less than the PFO but it supposedly still looks very similar this is of course with the assumption you are using Radium bulbs.

Most of the people that have them know what they are and will never let them go. Most of them never went away from MH, but with more and more people going back they are going to be even more impossible to find. Your best hope is to scour ebay every day and hope that a yard-saler or junker posts one.

Write a solid company like hamilton and tell them of your interest... if they get enough, they might just make a batch. I have asked them to consider doing a preorder and see if they can get enough pre-bought. This would be a good time for them to jump since the hobby is getting stronger as the economy is and more folks are figuring out that LED isn't going to answer their prayers.

Heck, even M80 are getting harder to find since AquaMedic got stupid and quit making them. Seems like they made these decisions years ago and are just now running out of stock... and now the hobby is shifting again...

Jda is right. When I finally did find one in San Francisco the guy straight up said $250 take it or leave. Course I took it but the point is if you find someone with one and they know whey they have they will want a premium price. Oh and did I mention I flew to SF to get it! Granted I was going there for work anyhow but still. ;)

Another guy on RC PMed me the other day asking if I was interested in a dual 400w Sunlight supply that supposedly runs to the same specs as the PFO. He wanted $400 plus shipping.

I am using radium bulbs. I do already have one, i don't even remember where I got it. Thanks for the responses. i will shoot Hamilton an email, to help the cause. I have an oceanic 72"W x 24"D x maybe 28"H I only run 2 bulbs. Anyone recommend running 3 over this same setup... thanks
