WTB wavemaker for 75g

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a wavemaker for my new 75g reef tank. I've been looking to get one of the new Jabeo RW pumps, but if someone has a tunze (or even a Jabeo) they'd like to sell I'm definitely interested. I'm looking to spend less than $100 which likely rules out even a used Vortech, but you're feeling charitable I'm all ears ☺ Haha. PM me if you have anything that'd fit the bill!

WP-40 would create a whirlwind of sand and corals in a 75g. I use a wp-25 in my 75 and I have to keep in dialed pretty far down a 40 would be overkill

Thanks everyone for the offers and suggestions! Nothing really struck my fancy but I appreciate it!
So out of curiosity, since you mentioned being open to Jebao, tunze and vortech, what exactly is your fancy? You had offers for Jebao so if that didn't strike your fancy are you hoping to get a tunze or vortech specifically for under $100? Might have better luck being more direct if that's what you would like to accomplish, never know someone might be feeling very generous.

Yeah i could see the confusion there. The Jabeo that was offered for $50 is probably a bit too strong for my tank, and is also selling brand new on Amazon Prime for $16 more. So for me to go used on a product that's already not known for lasting a lifetime on top of an updated version being released recently, I'd want a bigger price break (not trying to be disrespectful to Giraffecat, but that's just my line of thinking there). Free 2 day delivery also makes the amazon option more appealing. I already have more powerheads than I can even put in the tank, so i'm just looking for a wavemaker to last me at least a year or so. I just set up the tank, so i've dropped a ton of cash and i really just need something to get me through for a while. However, i'm just thinking that realistically i won't find a permanent solution in my price range. But if a more permanent solution presented itself at a price i could handle (IE a Vortech or Tunze), then I certainly wouldn't be opposed. After turning my freshwater tank into saltwater, I'm just not exactly flush with cash at this moment, haha.

No disrespect taken. I run my Jebao's off my RA+ controller. Size is easily mitigated by turning speed down. I use the 40's for nutrient export behind the rock work between 1800-1900 hours.

I have never seen any pump last a lifetime. Wet side and driver failures occur (Vortech), Jebao's fail, Tunze's fail, even had a problem with one of my Mag Drives. I wish we only had to purchase stuff once for this hobby.

You could always load up all the extra power heads you have and head out to the BBQ this weekend - make some money for your wavemaker purchase, and help out a fellow reefer!

+1 I run 2x wp40 on my 75g turned half way down and it is awesome. My achillies loves it.

I have never had any issues with the many Tunze products that I have - solid performers.

I did pick up a AquaMedic EcoDrift 20 at MACNA and it is pretty solid so far - standard Chinese controller, but the pump is made in Europe. In any case, it at least has a local company for warranty and stuff. I have no idea if it is good or not - I will let you know in 5-10 years.

+1. As long as you use 12V on Else mode or use the lowest setring on the wave modes, a wp40 is actually better for a 75 than a wp25. The wider flow pattern reduces dead spots better with the same flowrate.

Yeah I hear you about tunze, I hear great things. And to the other fellow, I hear ya about all things eventually failing. Thanks everyone for the input, right now my plan is wait a little and pick up an RW-8 in a month or two. That was actually my plan all along, but now the new tank is up and i'm getting impatient ☺. I'm still open to the idea of getting a used one of the right one comes up tho, Wink wink

Well If I had an achilles I would want crazy flow like that too. I have a 25 and a 10 on my tank and have to turn them almost all the way down on else mode or sand and corals start blowing away

An Achilles tang in a 75g? How's that working out? I'm still debating between a Kole tang and a yellow tank in my 75g, that makes me think a yellow would be ok, lol

I have a two spot Kole in my tank and love him, but a yellow would likely be okay too. As long as it a 4 foot tank they should be fine
