Looking to trade my oak canopy with dual 175w metal halides and ballasts for a quad T5 or combo metal halide with flourescents fixture which can sit on the tank - needs to be 48 inches and have legs as I don't want to suspend it. Not interested in a fixture with just PC lights. Must have lunars or moonlights and fan(s) and you need to be able to demonstrate that the whole thing works.
My corals are loving the halides but this 55g canopy has never fit my 90g tank (it's obviously not wide enough front to back). It came with a 55g tank I bought this Summer and I have just hung onto it because the shimmer and output are awesome. Both single-ended (mogul) halide bulbs I bought on Ebay about a month ago and are 14k and 15k, made for reef tanks specifically.
The canopy comes with built-in vho/T12 as well, but I don't use it - I believe its ballast is capable of 40 watt only. Because I was thinking I wanted to try SPS, I bought a ballast and rubber endcaps for dual 110w VHO/T12 (from Craigar some months back) and just last week picked up a new blue 504 actinic bulb for it from LQ - I decided now I am not interested in SPS, so I'm not needing this much light anyway. I run one tube on that and could do another 110w, but just haven't needed it for the softies I grow - I added to get some more blue for "pop". Can include that set too depending on what you have to trade.
Will try to update this later today with a good pic, but basically it has one door in front that runs the length of it and swings up for access - the canopy's super tall so your halides are a recommended distance off the water (10-12 inches). It's a light oak finish, open on the back for air flow. The metal utility box that holds the ballasts has a built-in fan. Whoever wired this did a pretty good job as it's been problem-free.
NOTE: There are also 2 small moonlights wired into the canopy but not directional. I would suggest supplementing them with something a bit more configurable like The R2's I sold recently which were great in this canopy.
PM me if you'd like to propose a trade. Links/info for your fixture are appreciated. I really prefer to know the brand and model so I can make sure it will fit my needs. Thanks!
In the pics below, I have my halides on, the 110w actinic bulb as well as a 48" LED tube (led tube does not come with the set-up).
