Any MASC/MBI folks still around?

Hey Reefers!
Just doing a sound-off to see what active members of MBI we have now in MASC and what they're specialties are! Looking at the reports, doesn't look like we've been very active contributors to MBI for the past couple of months, but no reason we should sit idle!

So for starters, I would like to begin with culturing micro algae supplements for gut loading and rearing feedstock. I would prefer to be able to provide my own supply of food from hatching to post-settlement and record my findings for my own use as well as MBI's.

I like to immerse myself in subjects, but microbiology is one area of science that I really haven't dabbled in too much, (other that scraping algae off of tank walls...) so any advice or tips that you can lay on me would be terrific!

I am fairly new around here. What is MBI?

MBI is the acronym for the international organization, Marine Breeding Initiative. It's a collective information database on breeding marine animals that reproduce sexually. It's an effort for clubs and other organizations to collaborate on captive breeding techniques and practices.

Even if you're not a breeder, the information on their website in invaluable for keeping a marine aquarium. Take a few to check out some of their website.

great idea. I am reading Plankton Culture Manual, sixth edition, Hoff and Snell. Fantastic book from guys that have decades of experience. You should pick it up. I have a few species i would like to try and spawn, (long term) and live foods are critical. Go for it.

I'll have to go find that book somewhere, thanks for the suggestion! Hopefully, if we can get enough people on board, we could get a nice little Colorado captive breeding program going!

Has anyone purchased anything out of Algae Barn yet? I'm curious as to how they're performing and how good their cultures are.
