Algae happens when there are too many nutrients in the system whether they be nitrates or phosphates. You have to find the source of the problem and eliminate it in some way. Gfo algae scrubber. Whatever works. It's also tough to find this out sometimes because your numbers may be within range but that's because the algae in the display...

Hope this helps
Urchin wise yes this is normal. I think j. Goukas is selling an urchin that has a zoa attached to it at the moment. My urchin consistently has snail shells attached to it

Yep algae phase is pretty normal in a new tank like yours. Overfeeding is the main culprit for the increased nutrient levels. Thing you can do is lower the amount you feed each time, run gfo, more frequent water changes ect...
Believe it or not the algae, looks horrible, but is actually doing you a favor in eating up the excess amount of nutrients in your tank. Just manually remove when the tufts get long enough and try and keep your nutrients low. It will take many months for it to go away once you have nutrients under control, so be patient.
And yes that is quite normal for pincushion urchins, they will pick up what ever they can carry and use it for camo. Mine carries around a large bunch of my macro algaes and looks like he is a moving plant.

+100 on reducing nutrients. You may also consider more clean up crew temporarily to help clean it up. I had a major problem in my 17 gallon but reducing the amount of nutrients ended up starving my pajama cardinal. I added 5 big turbos, 3 big Nerites, a few trochus and in about 3 weeks, all my algae was gone. I have since moved my crew to my 40 so they wouldn't starve. Reefs 2 go was offering 50 snails for $20 plus free shipping. I jumped on it and got some ordered today. Not sure if they have any left but it's a steal at that price.

Mexican Turbo Snails are tough enough to not get bothered by fish. They are algae eating machines, but also can somewhat be bulldozers.

How old is the tank. What are the nitrate, phosphate, salinity and temp readings. If you started the tank with dry rock, this will take a while.

I had really bad problems w gha until I got a turbo and an urchin. Cleaned everything up in a few days.
Urchins r healthy if they're carrying. Mine always is camoed w bits and pieces.
