It's been in my fuge for a while now. Hasn't made it to my display. Honestly at first I thought it was a form of macro algae, but it seems to be choking out my cheato and caulerpa. Currently fuge is lit 24/7 with 2 clamp lights 6000k 13w fluorescent bulbs.

3 days lights out will kill it. I would be hesitant to go that route though since you run your fuge 24/7. The lights out might shock and kill your more desirable macros but not sure. I never ran a 24/7 fuge nor do I recommend it. Plants need a rest period but thats for another topic.

My research is leading me to Mexican turbo snails. But I've heard those are quick to die in reef tanks... ? Also, I had been thinking about shortening my fuge light cycle to be opposite my DT lights, but I've had no problem with the 24/7, so why fix what ain't broke, ya know?

I have mexican turbo snails that have been in my reef over a year and they are doing just fine. The issue is they typically come from cooler waters which is the reasoning behind them not doing well.

Yeah I know. Do you have a backup to keep your fuge lit encase your power goes out for a extended period of time?

What does this stuff look like Jack? Never heard of it before. Pics would be a nice reference for any future issues.

I just picked a ton out, but it's the red cotton candy looking stuff. It came in a baggy of macro algae at the DBTC meeting. At first it seemed to be beneficial, but I started outgrowing and choking the macros, so I started investigating...
I found out during my last power outage that my battery backup I had in place is not working, so it's on my list of things to repair/replace.
