Reef angel has different connection end to the reef angel and different wiring chip/resistor that I cant remember the name for it.

Interesting, I read they were interchangable

Different fitting. Apex uses ethernet and reef angel uses one similar to a phone (dont remember fitting name). They also require a filter capacitor for the reef angel otherwise the pump wont respond to the pwm signal.
