Has anyone had issues with aptasia eating filefish? I was told he was reef safe. He ate up all the aptasia in the tank, and then my zoas started disappearing for no apparent reason- it isn't water quality because the gorgonians, sps, lps, and everything else is all happy. But I put zoas in my tank, and they're gone in a couple of days. Completely disappeared. Has anyone else had this happen?

If this lil jerk is eating my zoas, I'll drop him in the blender! He killed off 4-5 colonies of ones I really liked.

We use filefish in many of our systems and all of them will eat aptaisa and once they are gone the eat our zoas so I would suggest not keeping them in a tank that has zoas you want to keep

I recently kept a filefish in a zoa dominated tank for over a year and a half with no issues whats so ever and zero aiptasia. However it recently went carpet surfing and I decided to get a new one. Well my new one sure does seem to be a curious and pecking fellow so.....the 'Golden Rule' applies here that every fish is different.

OK! Sounds like I have 1 aptasia eating filefish for sale to anyone who doesn't have zoas. And I really liked him, too! Really active, cool color changing ability, peaceful.

$25. Paid $40 for the bugger a couple of months ago. Just hope I can net him without having to dismantle the rockwork in my tank...

Hmmm, interesting. After seeing yours Cindy I went out and bought a pair, male and female. The have taken care off all my aptasia but do not show any interest in my other corals, they seem to have taken a liking to frozen mysis and fresh pods! Its definantly hit or miss.

I deeply hope that yours keep behaving. I was really happy with how mine took care of the aptasia, plus he just looks cool and got along with the other fish in my tank, so I told people he was fantastic. My apologies if any of you listened to me and bought one that thinks corals are snacks.
