Anyone used AptasiaX? Im having a bit of an aptasia outbreak and my coral banded shrimp keeps eating my peppermints. Just wondering how well it worked and if there is anything I should be aware of. Just trying to nip it before it gets out of control.

Should I just take the jump and try my luck with a copperband butterfly?

Ive used it with great success but when u do it you need to cover it completely and quickly then leave ALL the flow off for at least 10min. Then syphon as much off as u can.

Sounds good. Ive got one rock that is pretty much infested, problem is I have a maxima that is attached to said rock and wont let go, if hed let go Id just remove the rock and re cure it.

Would it be beneficial for me to take the rock out of the DT, put it in a bucket and get the aptasia to open back up and just douse the thing with the meds? I hate this crap, 2 years of successful reef running with no isses and now all the sidden Im having an aptasia out break. Very frustrating.

BTW Dave, pink tail trigger is doing great and has been a wonderful addition to my reef, I have not had one problem with her and she is starting to eat out of my hands!

Its the one rock thats infested, but it has started to spread. Ill get the clam off the infested rock and re cure that peice, and use the AptasiaX on the ones that have started to grow else where. Sounds like a plan. Thanks for all the insight, as usuall you guys have been most helpful.

+1

If you leave the flow on and don't syphon them out, you will spread millions of aptasia across your tank. But if you do it right, you should be able to remove most if not all using aptasia-x.

I have used it with sps, lps and zoas in the tank. Killed about 18 aiptasia all at once with no ill effects on any corals. I didn't even siphon out the stuff afterwards....have not seen any come back and I did it probably over 9 months ago.

It MAY. Ive been using it with success and have covered my corals with it by accident. No loss ever with the product and no aiptasia present.

You would be correct my friend, not much in life is 100%. But I would use extreme caution when using it in close proximity to coral especially SPS. I had no ill effects on corals in the tank other than when it came in direct contact with the corals. I lost two larger than softball size sps due to aiptasia X. Thats when I went to a filefish and havent looked back. He ate all my zoas once the aiptasia was gone.lol

UPDATE: As of now i purchased one bottle if AptasiaX and hit every one i could see
Waited 15 minutes and sucked what was left out. Then proceeded with 15% water change. As of a half hour ago everything is doing fine, the sun coral even ate with the lights on. We will give it until the morning to be certain but i think the stuff worked.

I fed shortly after the water change to see if i could lure out any stragglers and didnt see any.

I have had luck with regular lemon juice and injecting the aptasia with a hypodermic needle.
Does not have ill effect on anything except the aptasia .

There is a really good article in Coral & Reef USA about aiptasia. I've used aiptasia x a few times and it works really well. I haven't seen them come back. I try and treat all my coral before I put it in my main tank and that seems to help.
