Hey everybody been out of the game for awhile just inherited a 46 gallon bowfront with fish , corals, t5s and a led strip anywho was thinking about filtration for this tank. My buddy was running some pos skimmer with a busted pump that I couldnt get to work trashed it . Was gonna just get a aqua clear hob for it and call it a day or a protein skimmer ?
If anyone has a 46 gallon what type of filter are you guys using ?

Depending on your bio load a decent HOB would work, you could even modify it a bit to house a bit of cheato with a small LED light. Keep in mind that poorly maintained HOBs can become instant nitrate factories. Sounds like your keeping fish and coral so depending on what type of coral a skimmer may be important, but if your only keeping softies like leathers and zoas a skimmer may not be so important.

I mean alot of it has to do with how much actuall maintenence your wanting to do. Obviously with smaller filtration your going to be doing bigger or more frequent water changes (again, depending on your bio load), and vise versa.

Whats the current stock list and whats your plans for the tank?

I have a Sailfin tang, two false perc clowns, engineer goby and a small damsel
As for corals I just have two acans a hammer coral and a toadstool
not planning on adding anything else so my bioload will stay the same for a long time

you should trade him for something better suited to that tank size, he wont do very well in there for very long. how big is he now?

you should trade him then asap and you should go slap your buddy for putting a tang in that size tank in the first place, just kind of cruel imo
but either way welcome back to the obsession :p

Last time I traded I got a sick fish that got all my other fish sick so I dont know about that maybe ill trade for a anemone
That can happen with fish corals rock and someone's saltwater. Always have to qt fish and corals for safety. It's happened to me as well had to learn the hard way. Every sick fish or infected coral can usually be treated and then safe to add to your tank.
