I got one for my stepson. Wondering if anyone has done any changes and get info. I run the filters that you buy in the first chamber and took out the bioballs. Have been looking at the media basket. Does anyone have chaeto running in theirs? Any info would be great.

I had a 29 gallon for a little over a year that I ran the intank refugium/media basket, worked really well. I just picked up a topless/rimless 14 gallon biocube that I upgraded the pump and the outlet head(spinstream style) and it also had the Intank media basket

HQI Biocube: Aquaticlife 115 skimmer in chamber 1, Intank baskets (2) with cheato and media in middle chamber, and Coralife mini UV on the return. Working well.

Little info on the mini uv?

If you get one, dont run it all the time. UV tends to do more harm than good unless you are using it to prevent spread of disease between tanks that share a common filtration, to help keep algae from spreading when you do a cleaning, or when you think an outbreak of something like ick may be starting, but youre not sure if qt is merited yet.

I run mine for 2 days following a rock and glass scrubbing and I have it running nonstop in my display while the tank is fallow to kill of any MV or ick that is freeswimming.

Hmm interesting I used on on my fw tank at one point because you couldn't see through the water because of algae... Thanks for the info
Freshwater or FOWLR, they work wonders being on 24/7. Reefs are bad to use nonstop cause saltwater has lots of free swimming benificial fauna like phytoplankton and zooplankton that get zapped by the uv and degrade increasing ammonia sources and also cant be used as natural food for your corals.
