When cleaning with vinegar do I use it at full strength or do I dilute it?

Re: Cleaning with vinegar

I've been using 50/50 to clean pumps, old tanks, and to flush the chiller. Dunno that there's any benefit vs full strength other than saving some coin, but I haven't had a dilution not do the job.

I was hoping you would say that. Got a few tank and pumps to clean, wanting to stretch the vinegar as much as possible.

Found 1.5 gal at Costco for 2.38, picked up 5. Should be enough

When I first set up my used tank, which had gunk and coralline skeletons and gunk covering 3 of 4 acrylic side panels and the overflow interiors, I filled my system (total volume about 200 gallons water) with fresh water and let all pumps run continuously for my leak test. I poured 3 gallons of vinegar in to clean the gunk and the new PVC I plumbed. After 24 hours, everything (coralline included) sloughed off easily with a scraper.

Re: Cleaning with vinegar

I prefer using h2o2 to vinegar. Simply because I feel it works faster. Are you doing hot H2O/vinegar bath? Cold H2O? Duration? Just curious as to your process and if it's different than mine.

When we cleaned my big frag flat, we just sprayed full vinegar on the sides and bottom, let it sit a few minutes, and everything came right off. Took less than 2 spray bottles of vinegar.

HAHAHA, Ive got this stoner kid that lives below me, and low and behold I come walking in last night carrying 5 gallons of vinegar as he is walking out and he stops and says "Id love to see your grow opp", so I said sure, come on up. I think he was completley disappointed to find out that ominous glow that comes from my apartment is a fish tank and not a grow room.

Youd be surprised the similiarities in equipment and methods between MMJ and reefing. I have a buddy that owns a dispensery and hes constantly telling me how alot of the stuff I do to my tank is very similiar ot the stuff they do in the grow opp.
