I hope you enjoy the parts off of my car. The radiator, roller rockers, distributor cap and wires, valve covers, carb, K&N Airfilter oh yea and the pushrods. I seriously hope you are going to use those parts in your own car and the motor blows!!! May the Carburetor come through the windshield and hit you in the face so hard that you have to live the rest of your life with a stolen carb lodged in your skull!

So, went to the folks house for dinner tonight, and I have a '74 Nova that I had started customizing years ago that was still on their driveway. I had pretty much got all of it done with the exception of the paint and part of the interior, but as we know hobbies change, life changes etc. Well my wife and I go to leave and I notice one of the hood pins is below the hood, the one that SHOULD have the lock on it.

I open the hood to find all of the above items GONE, like they never existed, they even took the roller rockers that were double locked onto the studs. Who ever did this took their time in cherry picking everything off of the top half of the motor.

Both my wife and I are in shock, and disbelief that someone would be so brazen to do something like this I guess I have to watch craigs list for my stuff.

so in conclusion, people suck and I hope your junk falls off, that is all.

Thanks, yea and I should be thankful they didnt trash it, they were like surgeons, had enough time to unbolt all of it didnt cut anything but the overflow line from the now gone rad to the over flow jug.

Started pricing stuff out, hope the ins covers it, if not, im boned

We think they did it either Tuesday or Wendsday night late. Dad didnt notice the wet driveway till yesterday. Another possability is they were taking stuff over a few nights and grabbed the radiator last.

Was just timing that we were there for dinner

either way it sucks

Maybe you can set it up with a camera for a few nights--see if they come back for more (though that may require a hoist?!) In either case, screw the cops and legal process and use the biggest crescent wrench you have on their knee caps.

Yea we moved the car, for that exact fear that they were going to come back for more.

Its possible the person(s) that did this were actually mechanics as meticulous as they were, if thats the case, I want ONE hit.

my 5lb sledge on the primary hand, give them something to never forget.

As ballsy as these guys are, wouldn't surprise me if they were carrying. You can have your wrench and your sledge, I'm coming out with my 45.

If you look at the parts, that's a lot of aluminum. Any bets they just recycled it?

+1

I am betting they are just selling the metal. There have been reports of stuff like this going on for a while now.

Sorry for your loss

no they are probably on their car already ...half the parts they took weren't aluminum and no reason for someone to take a air filter if their not going to use it

Yea there wasnt enough metal to sell, the parts are worth more as parts. The airfilter was a K&N filter, the lid of it was also an airfilter. I priced it out to replace it and its $170 for the setup.

They were miticulous about taking everything off, kept all of the screws and bolts, they are probably installing them on their car as we speak.

Shaun your right, whos to say what would have happened if they were caught in the act. Car parts are replaceable, albeit expensive, but replaceable non the less.

I have a couple reasons I think this was recycled. How many '74 Novas are out there being restored? If you are restoring one, $170 is really a drop in the bucket. Who knows what motor it has? Are they really going to break the hood pin lock only to find out that it's not the right motor? Where as if it is being restored(easy to tell), you do know there are plenty of easy to remove recyclable parts.

The radiator(aluminum), roller rockers(aluminum), distributor cap and wires(copper), valve covers(aluminum), carb(big chunk of aluminum), K&N Airfilter(had to come off to get the carb and would probably fit my '95 chevy truck) oh yea and the pushrods(aluminum).

So unless you know someone that has seen the car and would do this. Chances are they didn't target it to use the parts. Just my .02 from growing up in a family full of cops.

I don't wrench anymore, but did go to school to be a mechanic. I would bet with one partner, I could strip $1000 worth of aluminum and copper in a night. I just have morals.

Just looked closer at everything, they took the power steering pump bracket that goes to the head too.
Most of it is pretty generic to a small block chevy, the radiator can be used on a Camaro as well, the two cars shared a ton of parts, they took the upper mounting plate for the radiator too as well as every single bolt.

Either way, recycled or reused, still a bunch of low lifes.

They knew what they wanted and by them dismantling it the way they did, seems like they are using the parts in their own build. If you were going to use it for scrap they would of cut wires, hoses and such and there would be all kinds of nuts and holds laying around.Hope they catch the A-holes.
