I dont belive so as long as it is stored in a cool dry place. I was using a bucket given to me by a friend that got out that was more than 4 years old with no issues

I don't think the Kalk goes bad, but you should only mix what you might need to use within a few weeks. I think it separates over time to becomes highly concentrated in the bottom of your container.

I thought that's how you were suppose to use kalk? Wait for the film and for the precipitate to come out and then use the liquid only.

If exposed to air it looses it potency. Like Jda123 said, cover it and you'll be fine for up to a few weeks. Randy Farly Homes has some good articles on Kalk dosing.

I was talking about dry. It needs to be sealed and it should last for a long time. If not sealed, then the CO2 can affect the powder.

When mixed, the crust is a reaction with the CO2 in the air. Once it crusts, the crust protects the saturated kalk-water below.

If you are running a kalk reactor, then yes, you are correct. If you are mixing kalk into your topoff, then you only mix the proper ammount with the volume of ro you will use within a week or two. I only have nano tanks right now and that was how i plan to use kalkwasser. I can mix up a 5 gal jug of ato and it should be fine however i haven't figured out how to calculate the concentration in the ro that is out of my pumps range. I figured that I would just dump it than take a chance of overdosing once every week or so.
