hallide ?

#1
Wondering if it would be ok/better to run my hallide for let's say 2hrs on 1hr off with the hallides on for 6hrs a day...

Fyi my setup has 1 250w hallide and 2 t5 actinics.....currently the t5s are on for 12 hrs and hallide for 6.

Also am I correct when saying corals get no benefits from the blue actinics lights?

I used to run my halides for 10 hours. I was never a fan of shutting them off for a period of time and then turning them back on, it confused the hell out of the livestock.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question but that assumption would be incorrect. The corals do indeed benefit from blue actinic lights. As much if not more so than the halide's whiter light. Actinic lighting isn't very strong and so the volume of light they are receiving is definitely less. However, the additional color spectrum they provide is relatively essential.

Interesting......I must have got some bad info....I was told or read I don't remember that blue actinics were more for viewing but didn't really do anything for the corals....thanks.
