I picked up some zoas the other day from AA and my fruit loops look awesome while my rostas seem to be suffering. How do i help get them to open or what will work? They are under AI sol blues which they were under at AA and so i would not think the lighting is an issue

Move them to more shade.

All the reading I've done says that zoas can be temperamental. Move them and give them 3-4 days. Then move again. I would try a lower light/lower flow area.

I have owned about every zoa in the market and they all like different conditions. The one common denominator for about all of them that has worked for me is high flow, no joke. Dips have rarely worked for me. Once they are stressed and dont open its hard to get them back. Try keeping them in one spot for at least a week, moving them around alot just makes them mad. If you have another tank possibly try moving them to that one to see if anything changes.

I have to agree with the high flow I have also had great luck with 25% peroxide dip.

The peroxide dip worked for me but my issue was cleaning some algae off them. I bought a great frag at AA and they wouldn't open up but it was because of algae slowly encrusting on them. The dip solved that right away, and I went 50/50 with Peroxide/Seawater. Are any of the water parameters or is the temperature vastly different from Aquatic Art? Mine seem to do better with high water flow as well, but they can all differ. I'd go high indirect water flow and keep them mid level or so for several days to see if they respond. I do agree as well with not moving them every day to try somewhere new. Decide where you want to try them out and leave them alone for several days.

Some zoas seem to react better to change while others become stressed and melt. i cut 8 polyps off a colony of 25+ zoas and the mother colony melted while the fragged polyps survived.

My Fruit loops took 3 weeks to open the whole time i was moving them every 4 days trying to find a spot they liked. it wasnt until i moved them into high flow did they open and then once they were happy i moved them to a lower light spot with medium flow.
