Many of you saw the CHS tank this past weekend. I have always wanted a jawfish for the tank, and I think the students would really enjoy one. I tried, many years ago, several times, but they always ended up in the overflow, sump, and eventually the floor--within a day or two. I truly think it is because they just do not get settled in and build a burrow before they get hassled, inspected, bullied, and whatnot from the other inhabitants.
What if . . . I built a box about 6"x6"x6" open on one end and drilled all to heck with 1/4" holes on all other sides and the top. Then, I put the jawfish in it (sort of like a containment box when introducing new fish) and turn it upside down (so the open end is on the sandbed). Could I leave him in it a few days until he digs a burrow and the other fish get used to seeing him--even if through a box? Has anyone tried/heard of anything like this?
Cheers
