Hey all!
Been fighting an algae outbreak caused by user-error on my part. Was just not making any headway, so I started pulling out the rocks into a saltwater bath and scrubbing them down. Not much fun, but I am sick of this algae and going full bore to wipe it out this time...

Anyway...I used a big plastic cooler for this, and some stiff-bristled plastic brushes. Everything went ok...in the end I threw out about 15 gallons of water that was just black with detritus, sponge bits, and who-knows what else. The whole thing took about 6 hours. Started at 5am...ended at about 11am.
Afterwards I was pretty wiped out and just dumped the cooler down the bathtub. Didn't finish cleaning it.
At 1am the following morning I got up--couldn't sleep--and figured I would just rinse the cooler out. It has been sitting empty on it's side in the bathtub all that time. Just wet algae and rock bits and detritus to wash down the drain...

And then the algae started WIGGLING!

Turns out my lawnmower blenny must have been in the rocks and got accidentally pulled into the cooler! He survived all that foulness...AND....14 hours, unheated, in the tiny bit of water trapped in the algae!!!!

Poor little guy!!! :-(

Without much hope I grabbed him up and got him back into the tank..

And amazingly...he's alive...eating and swimming like nothing ever happened!

Great relief for me...and I know for him too! Amazingly tough little guy! :)

Anyone else have some "survivor" stories? :)

That's awesome :) I have a red dragonet who likes to take the waterslide ride into my sump. I've found him in my filter sock twice in the last month. I finallly put a little piece of screen across where I think he is getting through. I would've thought he would be a gonner after doing that twice. He always looks a bit shocked for a while when you put him back in the tank, but it isn't too long before he is running around like nothing happened. I think he is bummed that I took away his fun.

haha nice, ya I had a blenny awhile back that loved to get in my circ pumps whenever I turned them off. One day I wasnt watching and turned them back on, the circ pump spun him around a dozen or so times before finally spitting him out across the tank. I thought for sure he was minced meat but he shock it off and went right back to grazing

Holy cow those are crazy survival stories. How can such delicate animals survive all that. Im pretty sure a human that went through the equivalent would be toast.
