Well I am looking into getting a jellyfish tank but the place that sells them and the tanks say that they ONLY can live in there tanks that they sell. And of course they are way overpriced. So i was wondering if there really is anything "special" about the tanks? I think it is just a advertising thing but wanted to make sure. Also don't know if anyone here has gotten a jellyfish tank but how long do they live on average? Want to make sure they live well in captivity. And yes I am aware of the feeding requirements. This is where i was thinking of getting. and I was thinking maybe getting a fluvial edge and put maybe 2 in there? But wanted to make sure this won't harm them.
Thanks :)

Check out some "Gyre" and "Keisel" style aquariums.
That is what you'll need to keep most speicies of Jelly's.
A Globular or Cylindrical tank with a rotating column of water to suspend the jellyfish and keep them in the center of the tank. Edges, corners, and filter intakes will trap them and injure the jellyfish.

Throw in reef level lighting and filtration and you're in business.

Upside Down Jellyfish are a bit easier to deal with, but still very delicate.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking I would have to have a different kind of filter for them...

The way they come the flow doesn't run right, but I think they could be easily modified with some acrylic...

They really are cool creatures. Do you guys think I could mod one of the tanks I posted to have the right flow and such?

There are a ton of DIY Kreisels out there. This is one of my favorites. Leaves enough room for filtration outside of the kreisel. I would just make this and use plastic signboard to cover the areas you don't want to see. I think there were DIY plans for this somewhere, but the video cam up first.

I will ask at the Denver Aquarium on Thursday, they have a great display that is not too big. Of course it is linkedin to a large water system. That place is incredible, it is like a vacation every week, or a science outing:)
