Just wondering how many people use moonlights

Like the title said, I am wondering if people do use moonlights. If so do they keep the fish up? Do you use them all night? Is it better to have blue LED? I have seen white lights called moonlights so wasn't sure if blue is better.

~Cheers!~

I have moonlights and love them, for one they make your coral color pop at night. My fish crash almost as soon my lights go out so the moonlights have no effect that I can see on their sleeping patterns. I have blue lights and it really makes for cool site at night when there is a blu hue coming from you tank.

Alsi makes spot feeding coral at night 100 times easier.

I don't use moon lights. The purpose is so you can see your tank at night. I just let whatever happens at night happen. My bristle worms react to light by cowering away, so I keep the lights off so them can eat whatever I overfed during the day. I have several 6"+ and I don't see any negative effects on any of my corals.

I have seen some complex systems that simulate moon cycles, but typically we are just wanting to see what is going on. I don't currently use moon lights, but if I did I would only be running them in the morning prior to my lighting turning on. That will give the tank about a 9 hour blackout window with no lights and 4 hours of moonlight.

I have them but I turned mine off, just kind of seemed useless
Hmm was kind of my thought. They say it promotes spawning but if you don't want that then why bother? The spot feeding thing would be nice I suppose.

I had the white ones on my t5s I sold. With all the lights out it looked just like the moonlight shining through when I did run em. I never kept mine on just now and then id turn em on

I have them on mine, they are nice for night feedings, not sure if they do anything for coral growth, the fish do head to their sleeping spots when the lights go out so it doesnt seem to disturb them at all

I use blue moonlighting 100% of the time. I have anemones and read (in one of the fish magazines) that it is a good idea so a fish doesn't swim into the anemones & become a snack. I don't know if the fish ever truely sleep, mine always seem to be hiding once the lights go out. They're big & healthy so I guess all is well.

The nem thing is a good point too. As far as fish sleeping I can never tell. My stupid clowns stay up in a corner all day and night. Plenty of rocks and such to claim for their own but nooo they want a stupid corner... I don't have a nem YET but I am leaning toward getting moonlights now if not for my sake then for the other fishies. Thanks all for the feedback.

On the tank I have in my bedroom, I actually have a fluorescent blacklight that turns on for 4 hours when the main lights go out. It gives a really cool deep water blue effect, but the fish tend to still consider it nighttime and go to their spots. I really like the nightlight effect though, and it doesnt seem to hurt the corals.

I like mine as everything looks florescent, and the water looks peaceful.
