Light in a refugium

How long can macro algae go without light in a refugium? I am trying to kill off the cyno.

3 days no problem.

It's in the refugium got rid of all of it in the tank.

If you shut off the light in the refugium i think it will come back in the tank. Your macro and the cyano in your refugium are feeding on nutrients (thats why we have refugiums, so it doesn't grow in the tank) If you shut off the light in the refugium then algae in the tank will thrive on the nutrients. Just my .02

Gotcha I thought it might be choking out the macro.

If there is that much cyano in your sump you can just syphon or pull what you can out to help your macro.
