Do magnets have to be covered with something inside the tank.
Or can the magnet just be exposed to the elements?
Anybody have expererience just adding a magnet without it being wrapped in plastic or rubber?

If they are ceramic magnets, they will be fine. That is what they use in power heads/pumps. If its' the newer stronger kind, they need to be protected from the water.

Just go to harbor Freight and buy a can of liquid rubber. Its typically used coat tools like the handle on a pair of pliers or something. Its only $5
