Major pump failure at 10 pm last night

Just after my lights went out around 9 last night I shut my system Down to do some new plumbing work. I had wanted to do away with some small pumps and just use my main pump to run reactors and what not. So I cleaned my pump and did my plumbing and open valves to start my system. When the worst sound you could hear with a basement sump happens..... My pump just came apart and my heart sank in my chest :(. I called Martinsreef in a panic asking if he had a spare pump. He said he did but was unsure if it would work for me. So I rush over to look at the pump, we come to the conclusion that one of the gen x 40's I have might work better. Well longer story short it's in but not moving much water lol.

After looking I think I had a rouge snail get in to the line while the pump was off.

Thank you Martin you are a good buddy !

Well I wanted to up grade just did not want to shop online at 12:00am for a pump. Bought a reef flo hammerhead/barracuda hybrid. Should be here soon. Not they way I wanted to spend 400 + bucks 6 weeks before I go to Mexico. Oh well

Glad it wasn't more of a disaster anyway.

Power and my external pcx40 return pump are the two things I worry most about, heaters, skimmers, lights etc all easily found locally, or the tank can run fine a few days until a we come gets here. Really need a generator and backup pump on hand. Or and run a filter sock to the sump. :) maybe we should start a thread of who has what spare pumps, not for sale but for emergency situations such as this. Thoughts?

Well after this weekend I have learned 2 things spares and interchangeability are key. If I hade my plumbing set up to take my Pcx 40 it would have not been to much of an issue. But since I had to cut pipe and glue it took twice as long.

But after this week I always have a Pcx 40 on hand I use it to Chang water so I am able to loan it out if needed
