Metal halide Dimming

So ive decided and my corals have decided that my metal halide is too bright!
Does anyone know a way to dim it??? Without changing to a smaller bulb or a dimmable ballast(Which i have)

put a glass panel on your tank...some people use layers of eggcrate or window screen material to acclimate corals to high light... put like 4 layers on and then take one off every 2 weeks.

which works best you think?
I thought egg crate would just make a checker board shape lol

it still blocks out some light...id say the layers of window screen are best, and maybe cheapest...
