You can get all of the bacteria from the fish poo. Coralline can come in on frag plugs or anything else.

LR is good for both, though... although it will all die if you cannot feed it in the equilibrium that it was at before.

My current system started with dry rocks, dry sand, fiji mud, and a bottle of bactiv8. I let it go a couple weeks and added some caulerpa, a fish, pistol shrimp, and some snails and crabs. Then i let it go a month before i added more macro algae. I noticed several stages of algae growth, starting from brown to red to green then it all disappeared...thought that was the end but then all of a sudden cyano hit.... i watched it for a month all the while dosing bactiv8.. After that month, the cyano went away and hasnt came back.. I am guessing my cycle took me 3 months from start to finish.

Did you dump in the whole bottle at once and just let it run? Or dose it out over the 3 months?

I followed the instructions. Big dose to begin with and then regular dosing afterwards til bottle was gone..,haven't had to dose the bacteria since...
