Mini feather duster worms

Those look like what I had in my sump. There was a discussion a few months back about them being good or bad as a macro algae...

Re: Mini feather duster worms

Seems the general consensus on R2R is they are feather dusters. Seems to be several threads on them there so I am hopeful that they are indeed feather dusters. I will keep trying to get rid of them manually until I can find a box/cowfish to try in the reef.

Re: Mini feather duster worms

In an effort to rid my tank of these I got a copperband butterfly. He went in the DT today. Within 30 seconds he was going after the feather dusters. He kept at it for a while until my scribbled rabbitfish decided he needed to harass him. But if I can get the rabbitfish to settle down this just may be the answer.

Mike I just now read through this thread. I manually remove them with ease. I use a dental tool and only let the, grow in a small area in my display. I need to actually thin them out again if you want to see how my method.

Re: Mini feather duster worms

Thanks Dave. Yeah I have manually tried to remove them and I have been successful in removing large groups at a time, however I really am battling an infestation. I literally have them everywhere now. Many places I cannot reach without damaging corals or removing rock.
I know part of the problem is heavy feeding of everyone else, but as heavy as it may be, I feel it is the minimum that I can feed. Water quality does not suffer.
The CBB has a long term project ahead of it, and hopefully while performing it's task it will learn to eat prepared foods with gusto.

Train the CBB to eat out of a trap in the mean time, that way if he decides to turn into a coral eater u can get him out with ease. I love CBB and will have one soon I hope!
