Just be careful and keep it away from your pets and kids. I don't use gloves or anything and I look the other way when I pour it into water.

It isn't like uranium or anything or else it would not be $8 at every hardware store.

You can also find it at pool stores. The acid works amazingly well at eating up lots of stuff. It does stink and needs to be used in a well ventilated area, preferably outside. +1 on adding acid to water, not water to acid. Also +1 on wearing protective eyewear, gloves, and i wear a face mask because the stuff can burn your lungs. I also wear crappy clothes when using it too because if you splash any on yourself, you will get holes in your clothes.

Have fun

How long do you suggest leaving the rock in the vat cooking it has a lot of calcium buildup on it
Well...I had some small pieces of light porous rock dissolve into almost nothing in about 20 min. I'd try to mix a small batch, dip a rock, and pull it about every 10 min as a test. I had a couple nasty rocks take 2 15 minute dips to clean up well...new dry rock took 10 minutes or so.

I don't think there's an exact time to go by...but I'd start at 10-15 min and go from there.
