This is just a quaint little over view of what Im thinking of as far as right now. I am going to upgrade to a larger tank, so I want to get peoples Ideas on if this is a good idea for a properly set up reef tank that is going to mainly SPS. This is my plan. So the tank is going to be a 125 or 150 gallon. It going to have 250 watt halides w/out attinic supplementation. reef octopus skimmer rated up to 250 gallons. reef oct cal reactor and a mag reactor and a carbon too. Sump will be mainly filled with the large skimmer and a few pieces of live rock. in the main tank im going to have pumps set up on wave makers for flow and my main filtration will be live rock and the skimmer wand in the sump maybe some ceramic bio balls. going to try and get an ATO system also. Any ideas of what else is good and should be here?

I wouldn't bother with the bio balls if you have live rock.

What return pump were you thinking of, and what circulation pumps for the wave makers?

If you are running a Calc reactor, I would recommend a Controller to go with it like a RK or Apex.

How close are the halides going to be to the water? During the summer you may need a chiller.

Im not sure for return pump. maybe a mag 7 or 9 and I have korialla pumps 4 of them with each putting 750GPH. yeh i like the APEX controllers from what I have seen. Halides will be probably 5 to 7 inches away. Ive had halides before and havent really worried about a chiller but I think it would be a good idea. I think as long as coolr RO water comes in it shouldn't be a big deal.

Deltec just came out with an adjustable return pump, great idea IMO. The only down side I see is, paying for the Deltec name.

You can point a fan so that it blows across the surface of the water for some cooling action.

Here is what I have found with my sps:

They like flow, not being blasted by a circulation pump but more a wave. I run two tunze 6095 and a wavemaker in my 120 and works great. Stable parameters is a must. I use a knob c CR that works just fine. I think the most important part of that is having the electronic regulator, it takes all the frustrations out of a bubble counter. I only use t5's so I am sure the halides will be fine. SPS also do not like phosphates, I have read it turns them brown so I would consider some type of refugium with chaeto or something. Also not sure if you need the bioballs if you are doing lr. My tank evaporates about 15 gallons a week so an ato is a must. Have fun and start saving as sps are pricey. lol

And I would like to put emphasis on how nice the electronic regulator is, I wish that would have been one of my first purchases.
