Nemo is not doing well.

Picked up this little guy and a cleaner shrimp on saturday. He's been thriving until this evening. He lays down and then gets up 5 minutes later. Is this normal? Any advice?

How long have you had the fish? How long did you acclimate? Is there any other fish in there that could of been bullying it?

No. Not normal. He is a fish and needs to be swimming. Unfortunately, I would guess he is not going to make it till morning. Five minutes of laying on the sand is not a good sign at all.

I am not sure what you can do at this point other than perhaps a water change, but that will have minimal if any effect on a fish. have you tested your water for ammonia or nitrite/etc.? If he was healthy to begin with, I second Chad's questions. Are there any other signs of stress in the tank, or is it isolated to this fish? How long was he at the LFS or wherever you got him? Have you added or changed anything else recently? How old is the tank? I do not want to judge by the number of posts or jump to conclusions--just want more info--but it seems you are new here: is the tank new as well? How did it cycle and how long ago? The pic looks like an elegance--was the clown staying in that spot/hosting-like behavior up until now? What other inhabitants do you have?

Yes it is. He is up and swimming around just fine this morning. I thought he was a goner. I have no idea what he was doing last night.

Tank is a 72 gallon bow from that I bought used. It's 7 years old and was well established. Everything seemed to survive the move quite well. There was some brown algae that popped up on the sand that seems to be dissipating. There is a scooter blenny, two damsels, and a blue dottyback in the tank. We tried to catch the dottyback on the move and he just hid too well. Everything else seems to be thriving. I'm getting help from Great White in Fort Collins for a couple of months. He did a 10 gallon water change last week. We had the tank two weeks before we added the clown and acclimated him slowly to the new tank.

Glad he's doing better this morning. I would keep watching him for sure though.

Happy he's doing better! Hopefully the Dotty isn't harrassing him too much, maybe into exhaustion? Definitely keep an eye, including how labored his breathing and much/often he's eating. Lots of experts here (and Great White too I'm sure) to help. Keep us updated and good luck!

Not so well. He did great for a few days and then was laying in the sand for a day. This went on for another week. My wife called me at work to say she thought he was done. I told her to take him out. She went in with a net and he was gone. I think the snails took care of the funeral. I picked up a couple of pajama cardinals that the blue dottyback beat the living hell out of. I think he did the same to the clown. He is going to be out of the tank as soon as i can catch him.
