Hey all!....Dang it....! My enter button does not work--ONLY on this web site? Can anyone explain that one? Hey all!
Very excited here...thank you cut-and-paste!!
Just finished a period of moving...had to move twice within 6 weeks. Not nice moves either...basements...stairs, etc. Happily, the reef did ok. :) But setting up again made me wish for a bigger tank. (If you can imagine...)

ANYWAY. Couldn't afford it, but the PERFECT glass for my new build just popped up and I was fortunate enough to snag it. 120 gallon glass.

So, I wanted to expand my horizons before I start this one and get some input from the big dogs... :)

What is your favorite in the below categories?

Plumbing: Schedule 40 or schedule 80 for plumbing? I have been using schedule 40...is there an advantage to schedule 80? Better seals? Smaller footprint? More options? Wondering if there is an advantage here...

Heater: Going to a 120...do you think one 300watt titanium heater will be able to keep up?

Reactors: BRS media reactors for carbon and GFO....one of each enough for a 120 or do you think I need more?

Closed Loop Pumps: This will eventually be set up as a Brazilian style bare-bottom, with two closed loops for circulation and 'wave-making'. Closed loops will run off a pair of Eheim 1262s plumbed through the bottom. I chose to start with these because of their rep for silence. Anyone have a better idea? Open to suggestions here. Silence and power are the two features important to me here.

Tubing! I spend my life constantly wandering--in the eternal search for:
1) A decent pair of headphones, and...
2) Soft, flex pipe that I can actually manipulate! Pipe I can bend and even mold to shapes? Fantasy?
Anyone have suggestions on good flex plumbing solutions? Especially for *small* diameters? I usually plumb with plain white PVC and clear vinyl/barb fittings, but looking for a better way...

Aquascape: I could devote a whole thread just to this. I think aquascaping is always going to be one of my favorite parts of reefing. :)
Planning on using a lot of fabricated pieces in this one--pond foam and rubble structures, and even a whole back-wall overlay (in three sections) made of this stuff. (Love this stuff!)
Planning also on some free standing structures made from Macro Rocks Prime Cuts. Cool ways to build structures! Flex your inner MacGuyver! I am a nut for arches and coves!

Surveillance: Going a little overboard here, but this one is going to have cameras. Planning on 1-2 underwater cameras built into the rockscape. Planning on using waterproof housings, so not necessary that the camera be waterproof.
Anyone good with surveillance gear? Looking for a small USB, HD cam with pan and zoom.

Any input much appreciated!
Thanks!
Dave

PS: This club is great! The tank I just picked up, (Oceanic Tech 120) was a miraculous find--just what I was looking for. Made possible by MASC. Thanks everyone!

Hi Dave. Congratulations on the new tank. I'm sure others will chime in that have more experience than I but, I do have a lot of experience with plumbing. You don't need the SCH 80 pipe unless you are planning on having it hooked directly up to an inline heater (one used for pools/spas for example). SCH 80 is better for really high temps and ridiculously high pressures. Just stick with SCH 40. If you are working with flex pipe, warm it up first with a small handheld heat gun. They run about $35 at Home Depot. Once warm, you can manipulate the pipe really easily. Just don't melt it! That is about the best you'll be able to do in terms of having pvc you can shape. I always recommend plumbing with rigid pvc instead of flex. I have worked on pools and spas for years and the flex always seems to give me problems first though it is easier to work with in tight spaces. As for heating, you will probably want more than one heater so you have some redundancy in case one stops working. You will also want to look at controllers and temp probes so the heaters get shut off if they get stuck in the on position. I am not too familiar with the aquarium pumps so I can't help you there. Your aquascape sounds like it will be awesome. I just ordered a bunch of BRS rock and can't wait to play with it! Good luck with the build.

New Build--what is your favorite _____?

As much as I like the sound of Brazilian bare bottom! I don't think we are thinking the same thing? What is that?

Are you using internet explorer 10?

I think there were compatibility issues with IE10 and Vbulletin which sometimes caused that bug. Dunno exactly what does it.

If you're using IE10, try clicking that icon in the address bar that looks like a torn piece of paper, and it should revert back to the coding from a previous edition of explorer, which sometimes helps solve these issues. May or may not work for you, but it's worth a shot.

If you're not using IE10...well...you got me stumped, lol.

HAHAH! Yes...actually I think I like your kind of bare bottom better...

Yeah, as I understand Brazilian style is all about high flow--trying to mechanically export nutrients/waste; also upping the reduction capacity by using siporax or other biopellets to increase the reduction power in place of the DSB. Got the ideas from a TOTM on Reefcentral.

AAAANNND SCORE!!! Thanks Jahmic! Must have done an update that knocked it out of compatibility mode.
