OK, I have a new frag tank coming 48x18x12. My plan is to have it plumbed with my 65 into the same sump.

I am also on the fence of putting sand in my frag tank. Why do people keep it bare bottom vs sand in the frag tanks.

I'll have two rw 8s in for flow and dct 6000 for the return pump. That should be plenty of flow.

Lights will start off with two AI Sol's until I get my wife's 46 bowfront up. Then I have a onyx led and one from rapid LEDs.

I real curious if there is a huge benefit to keeping it bare or is it just preference....

I thought so. But if the flow is correct I shouldn't have much buildup and the buildup I do get is taken care of by the cleanup crew, correct? I'm asking because I've never done a true bare bottom and like the look of sand but if there is a benefit that I am not seeing then I'll do bare bottom of course.

Congrats on the new frag tank. Where did you get it from?

Try the sand! I would - I hate the look of bare bottom tanks. If you have a detritus build up, it should be fairly easy to remove the sand and go bare bottom if you're using frag racks.

Nice. I've been scouring the internet trying to find a used one but no luck so far. Think I might try a DIY with acrylic.

I did bare bottom on my 48x24x12 frag tank and will do sand next move because you can't keep many wrasses in them without the sand. I have a 6-line that does ok but I want to add more. That's really the only benefit that I've seen for sand.
