I just got back yesterday from Cabo San Lucas yesterday and am glad to be back home. The first three days were great, then I got hit by montezuma's revenge. I spent the next three days in bed or in the bathroom. This is my third trip to Mexico and my third bout with giardia. At first I thought maybe all the booze I was taking in :stupid: but that thought soon went down the tube. Sucks when you go to have a great time and gets sidetracked. Anyone else have the any bad experiences or just my luck. On the flight back, I told my wife I am done with Mexico and do not have any desire to return.

I went to Morocco several years ago and traveled around for 2 weeks. On the final leg of the trip it hit me...spent 5 hrs in the van sweating bullets. Got into the city finally, had some dinner and went to the hotel room and crashed out...then it was a 3hr plane ride followed by a train to get me back to my apartment in Sevilla...

Spent a month in bed or in the bathroom. Whatever I had was bad enough that the Dr actually made house calls and saw me at home weekly throughout that month. Tried going to school about 3 weeks in and made it 2 blocks (of a 2 mile walk) before I almost fainted in the street.

All that being said...I can't wait to go back to Morocco some day. I know you're hating the idea of s return to Mexico now...but hopefully that'll subside with time.

Random thought...did you avoid their tap water? Brushing your teeth with bottled water and not taking any of their ice in your drinks works wonders. I know that eliminates a lot of options...but it may help you avoid that again. Hope you're feeling better man.

That was the first place I got it Reefcheif. I'm glad my wife went to a pharmacy and put me on antibiotics. I was watching where I was drinking and eating and I'm sure I didn't be as cautious as I should have been. My wife noted that once you get it, you're chances of getting it are more likely. We are going to Cali this summer and I can drink the water anywhere I like :) .

I've been down south literally hundreds of times and never got it but I do like stated above. No water(not even locally bottled) no ice, and watch where you eat. Since we usually drive down there I pack quite a bit of bottled water and only drink bottled sodas from down there. Sucks that it ruins your vacation

When my wife and I went to Puerto Vallarta we each ate 2 pepto bismals a day. Neither of us ever had problems. Then when we went to Cabo we each took a shot of whiskey in the morning, again neither of us had problems. Then we went to Cancun and were extremely careful about our son, but I got lazy the last day... Thankfully we were back stateside before it really kicked in!!

I've travelled all over, and have been lucky. No water or ice is a given, but I also avoid anything that uses water in cooking (soup, rice, etc). Sorry to hear your trip was ruined!

I usually avoid raw fruits and veggies too...most of it is just hand washed/rinsed and isn't safe at all. Pretty sure that was actually my mistaken in Morocco that caught up to me.
