I havent used one personally, but I've heard great things about the newest model of the jebao DC return. Dont know who carries them locally, but shipping from fish street is only a couple days and cheap now that they have warehouses in the US.

I had a reef octopus diablo on as return on my last tank, running the big Jebao as return on this tank. love them, very quite, been running for almost a year now with no problems. I had a snail get into the impellar by chance one time, pump auto shut off to avoid damage.

One thing to mention as well. If you get a jebao, only get them from a store you trust well, like great white, or get them from fish street. Jebao has a whole different mindset on warranty than US companies, so the distributor is responsible for warranty claims and not the manufacturer. Lots of people have been burned by this when they get them off ebay.

I have a wave line 10000 running from my basement to my family room. It's about 6 months old. So far so good. Super quiet and runs strong. It's the 2nd generation, the 1st gen dc's get a bad rap. Love the thing so far. Ask me again in another 18 months and i may have a different opinion. Definitely hit up Vince. You know as well as I do that he will take good care of you.

I want to get one of the abyzz pumps, those things are amazing, like a BMW or Audi
Still a common theme with DC pumps is they are not good for pressure rated situations. So if you're doing a return loop, or closed loop where there isn't a lot of head pressure, they seem to be fine. Even the Abyss, I asked the guy at MACNA and he hesitated, than said there is nothing that pump couldn't do.... sorry for being doubtful, but think that needs some time before these can pump 20' for years without failure or leaking.

Well RE has informed me that I need an earth leakage circuit breaker(ELCB). It seems that DC pumps have serious stray voltage. A GFCI will trip at 5mA and DC pumps exceed that. An ELCB will allow up to 30mA with out the nuisance tripping. So if you plan on getting a DC pump plan on changing your breaker too. After discussing this with the electrician I will be installing an equipment protections device(EPD). If you decide to go with ANY DC pump I would highly suggest you look deeper into it. EPD breakers are extremely expensive. I would like to know if anyone that is running a DC pump changed their breaker?

A good DC pump should not have any stray voltage that will trip a GFCI. If it does trip a GFCI, it is a poor quality pump that you shouldn't be putting in your tank to begin with.

I am not down with using return pumps on an interruptible circuit. I just want them to keep on pumping.

Every one of the DC pumps made in China are terrible quality pumps, yet people use them all the time. I tend to believe that RE makes solid stuff and can be trusted.

Houston we have a problem... no bueno. My pump will run on a non GFI but will trip a GFI outlet. Email is off, lets see how Royal Exclusive takes care of the problem. Did not even make it a year.[/QUOTE,]

Asking around on RC this is with ALL brands. It is something with the way DC pumps operate.
