I could not agree with you more! I try really hard not to support any of the chinese junk.
Have you checked out the BK Skimmer thread in Premium Aquatics form on RC? Lots of problems with RE customer service. One of the biggest reasons I will spend the extra $$ is because I expect GOOD customer service. Lets face it, no matter who makes it or how much you spend there will be problems. They do have a distribution center in Florida now so hopefully they get their problems fixed.
As you can see in the pic it says made in Germany.

AquaMedic just came out with a good priced flow pump that is made in Europe (the controller is the cheap china one). My hope is that they come up with a high quality DC pump too.
RE has never been good about customer service or getting replacement parts. I sold my bubble king a few years ago just right after I got the parts to fix the impeller assembly (took like 9-10 weeks)... I just made me so mad that it took soooooo long.
