Overcoming the HEAT!!!

#1
Ok so I was wondering if it is better to take my glass lids off of my tank and let the fans blow over the water that way or leave the tops on and find a different way to try and keep my tank cool. It's a 75 gallon with two 250w MH. The summers just keep getting hotter and hotter I'm gonna have to break down and buy a chiller sooner or later. Let me know what you guys think about the top lids of my tank thanks. :)

I have fans blowing on top of the display In between the lights and the lids. Should I leave the lids on or take them off what would be more effective? Thanks for the quick response. :)

Take the lids off or get some computer fans and cut them in the canopy have one blowing on the water and one sucking air off

Ok sounds good I'll try it with the lids off. The good news is I don't have a canopy my lights hang over the tank. Thanks again.

Lose the cover, you'll like the shimmer beter and won't have to clean the covers every few days. If you have wrase's or other jumping fish, you may need a net.

I have 2 250's too and evap over 10 gal a week, but the whole RO/DI make and top off is automated.

The computer fan work great - I have just one, and need to buy a few more and install this week. Still, my temp stays within about a degree. http://www.reeftronics.net/d-m/apex-history

I have one 250w running over a 60g, my temps were reaching 86°. My usual evap rate is 2g/day. I finally made frozen water bottles to put in the sump, my max temp today was in the high 81°. I have a fan blowing across the top and the AC on as well.

Yea that sounds like my tank about 86 and that's what scares me but now I'm mad at myself because I removed my lids and hooked the fans up to the side I come back a little latter to check and one of the fans fell into the water. I have a ground probe but it still must have sent a small electrical current in the water :( all my fish are ok but my corals messed up and are pretty pi$$ed off :(
