Goes both ways. I'm happy that every time an inexperienced saltwater fish keeper or reefer buys something, doesn't acclimate it, doesn't know his water parameters, buys the wrong fish, etc. and it dies that Petco or Petsmart DOES NOT just give them a new one which results in the same end as the first. In doing that they drive up the cost for everyone else because you have to make up for the cost of their lost. However the callous way they blamed everything on me rather matter of factly, and then blew me off. The "fish" expert in aqautics didn't know what salinity was much less how to test it. I showed a manager what his hydrometer looked like, and that was after they said I must have had too much ammonia which is why he died. After handing them the water sample in hand, they found they were wrong. So then out comes the miniscule, water damaged, hidden disclaimer about their SW livestock. It was more the treatment than anything else. On the other hand, in all my experience with Sam at Todd's tropical, or Scott at what used to be Denver tropical Fish Warehouse, Elite Reef or Aquamart I've never had a problem. Sometimes fish or corals don't make it for reasons unknown to us. Hence quarantine, careful examination, and reputible dealers are always a great idea.
Bottom line, I certainly hope your fish does well and I'm glad you got him for a great deal. I'd much rather any fish or coral from Petsmart or Petco be in the hands of capable, knowledgable keepers as our on this site, then a first timer that likes it just because "it's blue". Good score for you guys, however I'm still not impressed with Petco and will now buy dog food elsewhere.
