Pods and algae for new refugium

Hi all,

So I have a question for everyone. I am looking to seed my new refugium with pods. Typically I would just stick a sponge in my current fuge and use those, along with the cheato and fern type algae. My issue is I know I have crypto in my reef. Tried as I did it made it in. Now the question. I think this may be true of most any system. Does anyone out there have a system that they know they have no ich in that I could drop a couple of sponges in for a week to collect? I think this may be an impossibility. Not sure if there is a commercial product that I could add that would do the same. I know there are several live copepod products on the market. Could I just add one of these or will that not cover all the different bugs that you want? This is a fish only system, just looking to set up something to help filter. I started with bleached rock and live sand so it's possible that the live sand (caribsea) might have already had crypto in it so the issue might be moot. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

crypto?
I can give you some bio balls, they are full of pods, worms and vermetid snails.

Thank you Wicked. Cryptocaryon irritans. Marine Ich. Really trying to keep it out of my new fish only. I know that I can treat it and I do typically with chloroquine phosphate in QT but I have found that it wipes out my algae (since it is a great algaecide).

Adam - No sure where you're located but I'm willing to help with the sponge, and a cup of fuge sand. I absolutely have no ich, or any other parasites. //Dave

You can also look at www. Reefs2go.com. They sell pods in bulk. They are not just tigger or a single species, but a large diversity of copepods and amphipods.

Adam, Everything said are viable options. I just bought live rock and got some fuge sand from some fellow reefers - soon there after pods to glore. At any rate, my sump is leaking and just yesterday bought a new tank to replace my existing sump. I'll be doing the swap out today so if you want fuge sand, today is the best time. I'm using 1/2 new and 1/2 existing. Good luck on whatever you decide. //Dave
