This isn't really a build thread yet, but more of a question asking thread.

I am considering doing a 10 gallon qt/mini reef/zoa tank in addition to my 40 breeder that seems to be doing well. I want to set up the 10 gallon so I can quarantine fish until their ready to be in the main tank, but at the same time I want it to look good.

What filter should I use, what powerhead, what kind of lighting, how many watts, etc etc I'm just considering it right now.

What would your guys input be on this idea? Good or bad and what do you think i could grow and keep coral wise in a 10 gallon?

for lighting I was think maybe a 4 bulb t5, maybe pc if someone has one for cheap, maybe 2 bulb t5. Hell, anything would really interest me depending on what I could grow.

let me know your guys input and thoughts please and thank you

I think your lights will determine what you can grow. You can grow whatever you'd like in a 10g.

If you choose not to drill, you can do HOB fug and skimmer. You can choose to make it a macro garden if you'd like. Really the only limitation is what size of fish you can qt.

In my opinion, you'll be better served setting up a poco tank for your small corals and qt separately. The reason being that anything you use to treat your fish, will more than likely kill any corals in the tank, and anything in that tank will be tainted and can never be used in a display tank again (as far as filters, sand, and rock are concerned). A qt is a utility, no need for it to look good!!

hmm, totally forgot about all the treating stuff haha. Maybe I am just getting ahead of myself and I want to set up a mini reef. Maybe when I get the money I will do both! :D

I know about getting ahead of yourself!!! I found an inflatable pool in the basement while cleaning and had it half way full before the wife came home and put the kibosh on that one!!!
