Red Rocks Concert Questions

#1
Anyone slept in their car after a concert at Red Rocks? I'm going to the Eric Church concert Saturday and I refuse to drink and drive but getting a taxi there and back(especially back) seems like a huge PITA.

I'm new to the state so don't have enough friends yet to play DD so I'm looking at other options.

Thanks,

Joe

Red Rocks is a Denver City Park and closes at a specific time, not sure what time, but do know it does "close", so you may get hassled by RR staff or Denver PD.

Ah I figured they would but wanted to check anyway. If I left a little early would there be cabs available? I can get a ride there but finding my way home is proving to be a little more costly.

No can do...they will chase you out of the lot. First security, then the cops.

If you leave your car there overnight, however, they are OK with that. The only thing is that they often will (believe it or not) tow all of the cars that were left overnight to one lot, or move all the cars into one area of the lot that you left your car in. That's really dependent on what's going on there the next day though...if there are no shows they will leave it where it is...if there is another show coming they will likely move your car to avoid any parking issues the following day.

If you plan on sleeping in your car, your best bet is to not park in the lot, but on the side of one of the service roads leaving red rocks where they often allow you to park. I don't know if it's a property/liability issue that disallows sleeping in your car, or simply the fact that they'd like to move your car and are unable to do that with you slumbering in the back seat. But, either way, they don't seem to pay much attention to cars left on those side roads overnight.

edit: it's sounds like you may have to park pretty far down so that you are basically out of park space in order to not get hassled. I've done this before after getting kicked out of the main lot, and was able to crash overnight. But I can definitely tell you that I have no recollection of exactly where I parked, lol.

Might be more hassle than it's worth...but you could also get a ride from the commuter lots just outside Morrison to the show, then just take a short taxi trip back to your car when the concert is over. They definitely won't bug you about sleeping there, and it'd be a MUCH cheaper cab ride.

Also, in the state of Colorado, if you and your car keys are occupying the car, it is still considered a DUI no matter what seat you're in or what you are doing. (ie. sleeping in the back seat). And based on my cousins experience, they will not be lenient about it either.

False, you must be in the driver's seat...or vehicle running with ONLY one person in it. Just don't want you to be completely scared off of doing something "responsible"!! ;)

I agree with jack, if you are in the car and the keys are present or on your possession. You can get a dui. It would be best to get in your car and hide the keys in your car.

I know back in the day we would camp at Big chief Hosa campground and hitch up to red rocks... but I'm not sure they are even open anymore :(

That would be pretty nuts if you could get a DUI for sitting in the back seat trying to sleep it off.

Thanks for all the help, I think I've decided to drink one or two at the start of the concert, let my metabolism do its job, then drive home sober.

My cousin DID get a DUI for laying down in the back and sleeping it off!! The only thing I don't remember is if the keys were in his pocket or in the drivers seat. I'll have to call him and ask.

Yeah, it was kinda a bum deal because that was strike 2 for him (also part of the reason I think he got a DUI with this one) but this time he was trying to do the right thing!

Chief Hosa is now closed for camping, and they do check when there are bigger shows going on (like widespread panic).

There is, however, some great hiking out there...I take my dog out there once a month almost year round.

Sucks about your cousin, Jack. If the keys were in the ignition that would explain it...otherwise he probably should have gotten off clean for that incident.
