Red slime Algae/ Cyano Help!!

#1
I'm kinda fed up with this stuff taking over my tank. Looks horrible and it's starting to
stress out my coral. Afraid I might start losing some:(. I've tried more frequent water changes. Even
bought this stuff called chemiclean. Did nothing! Tank has been established for Almosy a year and never had a problem with this stuff showing up and taking over my tank.
Few weeks ago I did move my tank from upstairs to downstairs right next to the window. (Only spot available). Where Direct sunlight was hittin it.. Which I'm sure was what started it. Bough new curtains that would block off the sunlight from hitting it, more frequent water changes, Tried chemiclean, less feeding.. And nothing.. Any tips? Help? Still kinda new to this hobby. And definitely new to this
problem...

Red slime/cyano is a bacteria. The cyano will spread quickly when the right "Nutrients" are present. From my experience there can be a few reason that causes cyano to bloom. 1. Not enough flow 2. Over feeding without enough skimming 3. Old lights (some think this is a myth) and 4. Water chemistry levels out of wack.

I would bump up the flow cut back your photo period.

What are you feeding your tank and how much/often? What are your water parameters?

This might help solve the issue faster.

Red slime Algae/ Cyano Help!!

Are you running a skimmer? If so did you make sure to turn off during chemi clean treatment?

Also what percentage of total tank volume are your water changes?

So you have a picture? Chemiclean should kill the cyano. At least for a while. You need to kill it and then get to the bottom of what's causing it. Can you list your: Ph, alk, phosphate, salinity, temp. Also, lighting and light cycle, water movement. What is your water source? Feeding habits. Skimmer... All of these things can be involved. Might be something besides cyano too. Pics and full work up are needed.

I was going to mention water source as well, are you using tap water or RODI? I've used Chemiclean in the past and it seems to take a few days to take full effect...

I just finally got over my cyano by adding a second ecodrift 8.0 to my tank and adding a diamond back goby to take care of the sand. I also switched to led. So I changed everything that could be a problem and Now its gone

I am actually encountering my first cyano issue and I was curious if there is somewhere locally I can obtain some chemiclean?
I saw some at Aquatic Art yesterday.

Awesome. Thanks Sophie. I was hoping that Petco or Petsmart or something like that had it but doesn't look like they carry anything like that.

Largest things that have helped when I ran into red slim is combonation of making sure flow is good, enough sand movement from critters, reduce the period for light, and treatment. It's a pain sometimes to get ride of, but I'm sure you will through it :)

I live in Westminster near 120th and Huron. No worries though Sophie. I need to head to Elite Reef anyway and get some more crabs as my wrasse has seemed to taken a liking to them. He also ate my cleaner shrimp too... Thinking it is about time for him to go!

@mbjnt - For flow I have a koralia circulating pump on the side of my biocube 29 as well as a maxi-jet 1200 in the far left (if you are facing the tank) compartment.

If you are off of 120th and Huron (close to me!) check the Petco off of Sheridan and 120th. Pete is now the manager at that location, which he is a fish guy, so their fish supplise is getting better and stock. He use to manage the one off of Washington (you might notice that locations selection has gone down the drain, it's due to him relocating). Also if they don't have it, you can support local just down the street Liquid Kingdom (just go est on 120th), they normally have decent selection on such things (though can be more dangerous store since to easy to walk away with more than you wanted to get). Jurrasic Pets off of 104th and Washington has salt/freshwater supplises to. Then next closes would be Elite Reef which they normally have stuff for that also. If I remember Mind Blowing Coral will be at Liquid Kingdom on Friday I believe, could get stuff to clear the slim and new frags, lol.
