I made this nice acrylic box to sit on top of my fuge on the overflow side to house filter pads, but Ive encountered a problem. Got the thing in place, attached the overflow plumbing and I know have a drip. After further investigation I have discovered the thing is leaking becuase of the way it sits on the plastic trim on the top of the tank, its not seating the way I had intended.

Its a 40 breeder, Im wondering if I can remove the plastic trim from around the top without comprimising the integrity of the tank. Or should I just remove the section that is in the way and leave the rest. I would like to be able to use the tank in the future for a frag tank when I do my rebuild in February as Ill be upgrading the sump / fuge entirley.

When I mess with it it seems like its extremly jinky, but I could see how it could help with keeping all the sides from splitting apart.
