should i boil shells?

I ordered some empty hermit shells online. How can I make sure they are safe to put in my tank? Should I boil them?

Just wondering.....what does the vin do?? How much vin to water??

Since there is nothing living you could do 100% vin but 1:1 vin to water would be plenty, it will just sterilize them without leaching anything harmful into the shells. HTH

vinegar is just a very mild acid ....good for dissolving calicum but not sure how well it kills stuff ...could also try bleach if you can be sure that you got it all out ...dont see why boiling would be a problem either
